The definition of humic acid, fulvic acid and humin

The organic component consists of humic acid, fulvic acid and humin, which is isolated from coal and composted animal manure.

  • Humin forms when plant organic material breaks down. Chemically, humin is not an individual structure but rather a combination of chemical structures which can be defined in terms of its solubility in alkali and acids.
  • Humin insoluble fraction: is insoluble in water at any pH.
  • Humic soluble fraction:
    • Humic acids are soluble as colloidal system in strong alkali (pH > 7) but not acids.
    • Fulvic acid is soluble in water at any pH (soluble in alkali and acid). Amino and hydrox acids are included here.
    • The humic and fulvic acids consist of C, H. N. S and O, of which C and O are the largest components.

Application of humic acid and fulvic acid in agriculture

  • Plant growth stiumulant
  • Soil ameliorant
  • Promotes micro-organism population
Why apply humic and fulvic acid?

Research has shown that organic material is the key to fertile soil and influences the biological, chemical and physical qualities of soil. Furthermore it has been proved that long-term farming practices such as soil preparation and the application of fertilizer removes the organic component in the soil. By applying humic and fulvic acid the balance is restored and this holds soil enhancement benefits, which indirectly benefit the plant. At the same time the organic products have a positive physiological effect on the plant.

Function of humic and fulvic acid in the plant and in the soil

Plant growth stimulant

  • Stimulates root growth
  • Stimulates top growth
  • Higher crop yields
  • Improved quality
  • Higher chlorophyll concentration and photosynthetic tempo
  • Improved stress tolerance

Soil enhancer

  • Improves soil structure
  • Improved cation exchange capacity
  • Prevents rapid leaching of nutrients
  • Promotes micro-organism population growth
  • Aggregation of clay soils which improves aeration

Scientific literature is available for all the parameters mentioned above.
